2007 Highlights

The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society’s first major event of 2007 got the show season off to a flying start! In spite of uncertain weekend weather, the crowds poured into the showground at Llanelwedd, surpassing the previous year’s attendance by 1,444, confirming the increasing popularity of the event.

The relocation of the auctions to the centre of the event enhanced the spirit of the occasion, as a variety of goods were bought and sold. The rich mixture of farm stock whether rare, unusual or common was a sight to behold.

The Farmers Markets in Wales offered a super showcase for local producers with many mouth-watering delicacies on offer. The Open Dog Show and Vintage Sections were also a hive of activity. The Floral Hall provided the usual splash of colour and the South Glamorgan Exhibition Hall was alive with sound and movement.

The Festival is a key fixture for smallholders and gardeners with a wide range of exhibitions and demonstrations.  One of the main attractions was the Green Horizons exhibition.  It reflected current public interest in global warming and other environmental concerns as hundreds of visitors sought information and advice on sustainable green products and services and energy conservation in the home.

The thought provoking and humorous address by the Reverend Mark John, Chaplain to HM Prison, Cardiff, was also well received during the Sunday Service.

All in all, a first class event, offering good sound advice and all round entertainment by the super main ring displays, circus, bands, vintage display, cookery and wool workshops, lectures and demonstrations.
