Beekeeping

At this year's Royal Welsh Smallholder & Garden Festival, for the first time, B&RBKA in conjunction with the Welsh Beekeepers Association (WBKA) will be promoting an exciting and varied insight into the art and science of beekeeping.

Located on the balcony of the prestigious Floral Hall, this year’s enlarged stand will incorporate an observation hive that allows the visitor to examine the heart of a community of bees in complete safety.

Volunteers are available to point out different bee behaviours and processes going on, and there is always great fun to be had ‘spotting the queen’.

We will be screening a selection of DVD’s on various aspects of beekeeping, and we invite you all to play our interactive bee quiz, guaranteed to test your knowledge of bees to the limits.

This year we will be demonstrating the art of assembling flat pack hives ready for use this season. Female as well as male beekeepers of all ages will be taking part in this event, proof, that firstly, females can do DIY, and secondly that it can be a sociable, stress-free and fun event (and certainly easier than furniture!) If DIY is not your forte, our stand is packed full of photographs and information about bees, beekeeping and events that we organise annually. We have leaflets and recipes to give out to the adults and stickers for our younger visitors. Most importantly of all, we have a selection of local honeys for tasting.

Staffed by beekeepers from throughout Wales, we look forward to meeting you, and answering your questions about bees and beekeeping. Should you wish to take your interest in this extremely fascinating hobby further, we can put you in touch with an Association local to you.
