Farmers Market
Farmers' Markets in Wales is again co-ordinating the Food Hall. Although the Smallholder and Garden Festival is a national event, the food producers are predominantly from Wales and the border counties, and visitors will be offered a sumptuous cornucopia of some of Wales and the border counties’ finest foods.
Although not a Farmers' Market in the strict sense (these are markets held regularly at specific locations) the focus is for producers to exhibit and sell their own products.
2007 saw a marked increase in interest with nearly 70 producers booked to attend with the hall overflowing and stalls spilling out around its curtilage. 2008 bodes to be even better!
There has been an amazing growth in farm diversification over the last few years with some of the finest foods you will find anywhere being produced. The Royal Welsh Showground is the natural home to showcase what is fast becoming a jewel in the crown of Welsh food and agriculture.
The 2007 Festival included amongst the meat: lamb, mutton, beef, wild boar, venison, game, kid meat, and Charcuterie; a range of exquisite cheeses (cow, goat and ewe), Wines, cider, perry liquers and fruit wines, hand made dairy ice cream and a deluge of jams, chutneys, preserves, cakes and artisinal breads ... and the list goes on.
The market is co-ordinated by Mr Stephen Shearman M.Sc, DIC, Manager, Farmers Markets in Wales Ltd, Rose Cottage, Watery Lane, Llanishen, Chepstow, Monmouthshire NP16 6QT
