Green Horizons Exhibition

Green Horizons 2008 was a newly developed feature of the Royal Welsh Smallholder and Garden Festival, moving forward this initiative significantly from the first Green Horizons event held the previous year. It was designed to enable traders and organisations with links to ‘green’ issues to promote their goods and services to the 25,000 visitors to the show, so that those visitors could have access to the information they need in order to do their bit towards caring for the environment and combating climate change.

The exhibition was a great success with 96% of traders saying they had a good weekend, would come back to the show in future years and would recommend the event to others.

Visitors’  feedback was equally good about the range of products and services available. Paul Christie from Moel Y Ci for example said ‘I found out everything I need to know about converting our barn in an environmentally friendly way!’

As well as all the building and energy companies who exhibited, there was also an excellent range of other ‘green’ organisations such as Organic Farmers Association, the Organic Centre Wales and the Centre for Alternative Technology and a range of stalls selling environmentally friendly products such as BagAge, Greener Homes, and the Deco Shop.

Organisers Sarah Morton and Annie Grundy who worked for the Royal Welsh to put Green Horizons together said ‘Thanks are due to all those who took part and made it such a great weekend – particularly to Event Recycling for managing the waste, Fingers and Forks for providing the organic and fair-trade cafe and to all those who offered demonstrations and talks such as the hurdle-making and discussion re Transition Towns.

For the future there were lots of ideas and suggestions for how the event could be made even better, with more demonstrations and activities and even more stands. Anyone wanting to know more about the event should contact the RWAS on 01982 554408.
