Agricultural award for Pembrokeshire Food Officer
Mrs Kate Morgan of Wood Farm, Walwyns Castle, Haverfordwest, has been made an Associate of the Royal Agricultural Societies for the contribution she has made to the farming, food and agricultural tourism sector in Pembrokeshire and the rest of Wales.
Mrs Morgan is Food Officer in the economic development team of Pembrokeshire County Council and is a member of the Welsh Assembly Government’s Food and Drink advisory board.
During the past 10 years she has worked alongside farmers and primary food producers in the area assisting them to access support and providing additional procurement, added value and new market opportunities. Among her successful initiatives has been the establishment of Haverfordwest Farmers Market, acclaimed one of the top 10 food markets in the UK, and the development of a Food and Drink trade directory listing producers in Pembrokeshire which is sent to all retail, hospitality and tourism outlets in the county providing information about the local food industry, what is on offer and how it may be obtained.
Mrs Morgan also set up the Pembrokeshire Produce Mark which identifies produce as locally produced and conforming to the high standards and authenticity demanded by customers.
