ATV competition at Winter Fair will test young farmers’ skills
Young farmers will be able to test their skills against the clock at handling an ATV four-wheel drive bike at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair which takes place on November 30 – December 1 on the showground at Llanelwedd, Builth Wells.
Competitors, who must be under 26 years old, will have to manoeuvre and negotiate various obstacles on an ATV, at some point hitching up a small trailer and reversing the combination through a set of obstacles.
The emphasis will be on skill, balance and the safe operation of the machine and 15 minutes will be allocated to complete the course. Marks will be deducted for over time.
The overall winner of the challenge will be awarded a trophy and a cheque for £50. Prizes of £30 and £20 will go to the second and third placed competitor.
The ATV challenge will be held on the first day of the Winter Fair in the horse walk area of the showground beginning at 9.00am. It is one of a number of YFC competitions taking place at the Fair.
In keeping with the seasonal theme of the event YFC teams, each of two competitors, will be invited to decorate a Christmas tree. They will be allowed one hour to complete the competition and will have to provide their own decorations and fairy lights and a trophy will be presented to the winning team. The competition will be judged by the Royal Welsh Lady Ambassador, Lucinda Dargavell, and her deputy, Mrs Teleri Jenkins Davies, who will award marks for originality, team work and overall effort.
