Glamorgan raises £302,000 for Royal Welsh

Glamorgan, the feature county at the 2009 Royal Welsh show, has raised £302,000 for the RWAS feature county fund.  The figure, described by the chairman of the society’s Council, Alun Evans, as a colossal sum, was announced by Mrs Kate Thomas, the retiring 2009 President at a meeting of the council at Builth Wells.

The money, the result of 85 fund-raising events held by Glamorgan during the year will go towards the cost of a new Food Hall now under construction on the shoground at Llanelwedd at a cost of £1.58m.

This was the eighth time for Glamorgan to be featured at the show since 1969 taking the county’s total contribution to the RWAS feature county fund to £1.3m.

Mrs Thomas, who is Lord Lieutenant of Mid Glamorgan, is succeeded by the well-known and popular television broadcaster and farmer Dai Jones, of Llanilar, Aberystwyth.  He was elected President of the society for 2010 when Ceredigion will be the feature county at the Royal Welsh Show.
