Monmouthshire vet made Associate of Royal Agricultural Societies
A South Wales veterinary surgeon noted for his work in preventive medicine in farm animals, and especially in the teaching and transfer of knowledge and techniques used by vets to farmers and stockbreeders, has been made an Associate of the Royal Agricultural Societies.
Robert Stevenson, of Raglan, Monmouthshire, a former president of the British Veterinary Association, was the senior partner at Usk Veterinary Centre and has remained consultant to the practice since retiring from full time clinical work in 2004.
During 45 years in the profession working in practices in Gloucestershire, Dorset and Monmouthshire, he has also been a guest lecturer at Dorset and at Usk Agricultural Colleges and Liverpool Veterinary School. He has also served as chairman of two Agricultural Training Boards and as Examiner and Technical Verifier for the National Proficiency Tests Council.
Since 1999 he has been an assessor for the Animal Medicines Training Regulatory Authority (AMTRA) and the authority’s chairman since 2007. Other appointments include the presidency of the Pig Veterinary Society, Commissioner UK Medicines Commission, and veterinary consultant to the British Pig Association. He is currently president of the Pedigree Welsh Pig Society and chairman of the Welsh Government’s Cardiff Regional TB Eradication Delivery Board.
