New Associate of Royal Agricultural Societies
A key figure in the transfer of knowledge to the Welsh dairy industry, John Griffiths of Ferryside, Carmarthen, has been made an Associate of the Royal Agricultural Societies.
Mr Griffiths manages the Resource Centre at Gelli Aur, Carmarthenshire, which delivers Farming Connect’s Dairy Development Programme, an all-Wales technology transfer scheme aimed at supporting dairy farmers and making them more financially, technically and environmentally sustainable into the future. The DDP runs over 50 events a year at its network of 10 demonstration and three development farms which attract an attendance of over 3000.
A former consultant with Genus and then Senior Lending Manager at the NatWest Bank in Carmarthen, his other interests include the home farm at Kidwelly, Carmarthen, with its suckler herd and flock of pedigree Suffolk sheep which have won a succession of top prizes and which produced the Group Champion at the Royal Welsh Show in 2007. He is also this year’s chairman of the Dyfed Suffolk Sheep Breeders Club.
A graduate in agriculture from Aberystwyth University, he is a former winner of three educational prizes – the Welsh Agricultural Student of the Year, the RWAS Student of the Year and the Dr Richard Phillips Student of the Year awards.
