New Members Centre opened on Royal Welsh showground
A new £1m Members Centre sponsored by Montgomeryshire was officially opened at the Royal Welsh showground on Monday by Hywel Lloyd, President of the Society in 2006, when Montgomeryshire was the feature county.
Mr Lloyd, one of the driving forces behind the new facility which will serve the society’s growing membership, without which, said Mr Lloyd, no organisation or institution could be successful.
“At Llanelwedd we now have in excess of 17,000 members. Principally from Wales and from the rest of the UK, but increasingly a hard core have joined from overseas giving us an international flavour, importantly so, as global trade both for import and export is now the order of the day,” he said.
“In constructing this building the society has been mindful of the welfare of our members. With its prime position, the aesthetic architecture, including the mezzanine floor, we now look forward to our members being properly catered for which is their due and just reward.”
The new two-storey building, located on the south east end of the main ring, provides 750sqm with a dining area, mezzanine level, fully glazed façade and balcony, giving extensive views across the main ring.
