Sales are highlight of Winter Fair
Intending bidders at the sale of stock at this year’s Royal Welsh Winter Fair are again being advised that they must obtain special lapel badges and register a number to gain access to the reserved seating for buyers opposite the rostrum. The badges will permit easy identification of buyers by the auctioneers among the crowds of ringside spectators when the sale is in progress. No one will be allowed into the sale rings during the sales without an appropriate badge and prospective buyers are being asked to restrict the number of badges required to two only.
The sales are a highlight of the Winter Fair and will take place on the second day of the two-day event held on Monday and Tuesday, November 29 and 30, on the showground at Llanelwedd, Builth Wells.
The record price for the Winter Fair champion stands at £12,500, obtained for a Limousin cross steer in 2005, and livestock producers are anticipating firm prices this year in line with recent market trends.
Exhibitors are permitted to place reserve prices of £2700 for the supreme champion beast and £2500 for the reserve, although these may be varied by the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society prior to the auction sales.
The livestock auctions begin at 10.30am with the sale of lamb carcasses in the Carcass Hall. Sheep are sold from 12 noon in Hall 3 of the Royal Welsh Exhibition Centre, pigs at 2.00pm in the Pig Building, and cattle go under the hammer starting at 3.00pm in Hall 1. The champion and reserve animals will not be sold before 3.15pm.
