Clwyd Vintage and Classic Tractor Committee for the Counties of Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexha

The Clwyd Vintage and Classic Tractor Committee were formed in 2007 to represent Clwyd in this year’s Royal Welsh Agricultural Show.  Steve Watts was elected Chairman with Arthur Jennings being Vice Chairman, Elwyn Davies as Secretary and Gwilym Jones as Treasurer. The remaining committee members are John Hooson, Hefin Jones, Harry Williams and Edwin Hughes. Back up support services for the exhibitors is Brian Jones.

North Wales is very rich in the quality and number of vintage and classic tractor clubs which provide an excellent choice for the enthusiast.

The “lead society” for this event is the Flintshire Vintage and Classic Tractor Club with support from Cymdeithas Hen Dractorau Dyffryn Clwyd and Clwyd Veteran and Vintage Machinery Society. Many enthusiasts are members of all three clubs thus enjoying a full programme of events throughout the year with considerable financial contributions being made to North Wales charities.

Flintshire Vintage and Classic Tractor Club newly formed in 2006 with a current membership of 150 meet at Brynford Golf Club on the 3rd Wednesday of each month with a varied and entertaining programme of events including evening meetings and tractor road runs.

Cymdeithas Hen Dractorau Dyffryn Clwyd established in 1986 conduct the majority of their meetings through the medium of Welsh and has over the years had in excess of 140 members. Meetings are held at the Farmers Arms, Waen on the last Tuesday of the month. A vintage tractor ploughing match is held annually with an excess of 60 competitors.

The Clwyd Veteran and Vintage Machinery Society has been in existence for over 20 years and holds at least 2 major events annually as well as evening meetings on the 3rd Monday of the month held at Denbigh.

The Committee have selected a wonderful display of agricultural tractors and implements for this event. The selection include examples from the turn of the last century, having either been manufactured in the UK or imported during the war years to support the war effort under the “lease lend” arrangements with the USA. Examples of classic tractors from the 60’s and 70’s that are still required to earn a living on their homesteads today provide the final spectrum of the display. Many of these exhibits have been working the whole of their working lives on farms in Wales.

Of particular interest “The Ivel” tractor built in 1903 which is probably one of only 3 known working examples in the world, demonstrated by David White a well known tractor restorer. Also an International Titan and Mogul which were produced soon after the First World War and from the Classic period a Massey Ferguson 65 Tricycle model which is possibly the only example in the UK.
