Neither the recession, nor a threatening weather forecast in the days leading up to the show, checked the flow of visitors, including 696 from 40 countries who signed in at the International Pavilion.  The final attendance of 227,513 was the sixth highest recorded and made this the twenty-third successive Royal Welsh Show at which visitor numbers have exceeded 200,000.Quack Pack 2

The four-day show also welcomed hundreds of new members who joined the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society lifting the membership to a record level of over 18,000.  They were able to enjoy the facilities of a new £1.2m Members Centre which was officially opened during the show.

Another major investment of £225,000 spent on improving the drainage and the surface of the main ring proved successful.  The surface withstood the heavy wear and tear and maintained its lush green appearance throughout the four days of the event.

The chairman of the Royal Welsh board of management, David Lewis, said the result was a matter of great satisfaction.  Both investments had borne fruit and showed the Royal Welsh to be a progressive society.

The show, he said, had been another tremendous success.
