WPD’s Jeremy Thompson with festive art winner Katrin Moody, from Llandysul.

An artistic Llandysul youngster, who scooped the top prize in a competition to design a Christmas card for the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, has seen her creation in print and on sale.

Eleven-year-old Katrin Moody’s card will be launched on the first day of the Royal Welsh Winter Fair on Monday November 30 at the showground in Builth Wells where it will be on sale.

Her winning design had been judged to be the best in the Children’s Art and Design Competition sponsored by Western Power Distribution (WPD) at the 2009 Royal Welsh Show – a competition that attracted over 800 entries from 41 schools across Wales.

Katrin, a pupil at Ysgol Gynradd Penboyr at the time of the competition also won a first prize of £30 plus art materials and £100 for her school.

Katrin’s present school is Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn.

She said: “I am so excited to think that my design was chosen and my card is being sent all over Wales.”

Katrin will be presented with a specially framed copy of her Christmas card at the Winter Fair, by WPD’s Public Relations Officer, Karen Welch, who praised the quality of her work.

“Katrin’s entry was outstanding in a competition that attracted a very high standard of entries. It was a difficult choice but the judges thought her design captured the spirit of Christmas on the farm in a really imaginative way,” she said.
