Gwobr i ffermwr Gogledd Cymru
A North Wales farmer and one of the best known stock breeders of his generation who has been described as ‘an unassuming but ardent ambassador for farming and the countryside’, has been made an Associate of the Royal Agricultural Societies. Trebor Edwards of Betws Gwerfyl Goch, Corwen, was president of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society in 2008, and has received the award for his contribution to family farming and diversification.
A successful breeder and exhibitor of cattle at many of the UK’s leading shows including the Royal Welsh and the Winter Fair where he won the supreme championship in 2000, he is widely known for his tenor voice and has sung before audiences around the world giving many performances in aid of various charities. He has also made numerous recordings including five gold discs and several CDs.
Mr Edwards started farming, aged 16, when he took over his grandfather’s 156 acre holding. He made his two sons partners in the business as soon as they left school and today the family farm comprises 1000 acres.
The farm was accepted into the Tir Gofal scheme five years ago and gates, fences and hedges have been maintained to the required standard and three wildlife ponds have been created.
Locally, Mr Edwards has served as a Community Councillor for over 40 years, is a school governor and a past chairman of Corwen Farmers Co-operative.
