Gwobr i ffermwr Cymreig

The President of NFU Cymru, Edmund Bailey of Llanbedr, Gwynedd, has been made an Associate of the Royal Agricultural Societies in recognition of his contribution to the sheep industry.

Mr Bailey, a key figure among representatives of sheep producing states in Europe, is vice-chairman of the European Commission Sheep and Goats Advisory Committee, where he is engaged in encouraging the Commission to adopt UK policy for the benefit of sheep producers.

His knowledge of the industry has been strengthened through his past and present involvement with various organisations in Wales including his past chairmanship of NFU Cymru’s LFA board and of Hybu Cig Cymru’s board and its research and development committee, membership of the Upland Forum and as chairman of the Institute of Biological Environmental and Rural Sciences new ‘prosoil’ experiment.

Mr Bailey, whose parents moved to Wales from the Manchester area in the 1950s, started his farming career on a 2800 acre hill farm carrying 2000 Welsh Mountain ewes and 100 Welsh Black suckler cows.  He now farms in partnership with his brother and nephew.
