Christmas has come early this year for Brecon schoolboy Warok Rai who has won the £30 top prize in a competition to design a Christmas card for the Royal Welsh Agricultural society
Warok, aged eight, has also won a cash award of £100 for Brecon Mount Street Junior School, where he is a pupil, from the sponsors of the competition, Western Power Distribution (WPD).
The Children’s Art and Design competition which attracted 500 entries from 32 schools in Wales, has been sponsored by WPD for more than 10 years. Pupils were invited to use their skill and imagination to design a painting or drawing illustrating the impact of the festive season on farming life.
“It’s exciting to think that my card will be sent all over Wales and I am so pleased that my design was chosen as the best,” said Warok.
Warok’s card will be launched on the first day of the Royal Welsh Winter Fair on Monday, November 28, when it goes on sale on the showground at Llanelwedd, Builth Wells.
He will be presented with a framed copy of the card by the Royal Welsh Lady Ambassador, Gwenno Griffith, and by the competition judge, Karen Welch, who has praised the high standard of the entries.
“It was a difficult choice but the judges concluded that Warok’s design stood out and really captured the spirit of Christmas on the farm,” she said
