Anrhydeddu ffermwr o Forgannwg
One of South Wales’s most progressive farmers, Gwyn Anthony of Haregrove Farm, Laleston, Glamorgan, has been made an Associate of the Royal Agricultural Societies.
Haregrove has piloted many schemes in farming including trials of cereal and grass crops. The use of big bale silage, especially square bales, was first seen at Haregrove and crimping grain for ensiling and feeding to stock was also a first for Glamorgan.
The 1000 acre enterprise carries a Friesian herd of over 500 cows housed in a new dairy complex and flocks of 800 pedigree Lleyn sheep and 40 pedigree Charollais. There are 400 acres of arable crops.
Haregrove, with its outstanding standards of production, has hosted many farm visits over the years by grassland societies, Farmers Clubs and Chambers of Agriculture.
Mr Anthony, who was awarded the MBE for his achievements in agriculture, has won the Glamorgan Merit Trophy for dairying on two occasions and is a three times winner of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society’s farm buildings competition.
He has successfully shown and judged sheep at major shows and has been a member of the Lleyn Sheep Society for 26 years. He is a lifetime member of Glamorgan NFU and the Farmers Club of Glamorgan.
