Anrhydedd i ddynes o Gaerfyrddin
The head of the All-Wales Farm Liaison Service for the Welsh Assembly Government Agriculture Department, Miss Rita Jones of Cynwyl Elfed, Carmarthen, has been made an Associate of the Royal Agricultural Societies.
The Farm Liaison Service was set up to provide advice and guidance for farmers on the complexities of legislative changes and new rules affecting the farming industry. The service developed from a pilot scheme established by Miss Jones in 2001 in the wake of the foot and mouth crisis. Subsequently, she formed partnership groups throughout Wales with the farming unions and various organisations to help deliver advice on new regulations such as those resulting from the introduction of the Single Farm Payment.
Miss Jones, a farmer’s daughter, was awarded the MBE two years ago for services to Welsh agriculture. She was a founder member and first secretary of Cynwyl Elfed Young Farmers Club and has held a number of other posts including chairwoman, Club Leader, Club Adviser, and President-elect.
