A North Wales farmer has been made an Associate of the Royal Agricultural Societies for his pioneering work on the genetic development of Welsh Mountain sheep. Alwyn Rees of Caeceinach, Pennal, Machynlleth, Powys, has seen his efforts over 26 years of improving Welsh Mountain sheep rewarded with the sale of rams from his flock achieving five figure prices reaching up to 18,000 guineas. He has also been successful in applying the latest breeding techniques to his herd of Charolais cattle and has produced a number of top prize winners including the champion Charolais bull at the Royal Welsh Show and the British Charolais Cattle Society breed sales at Welshpool and Carlisle.
A noted judge of sheep and cattle he is a past chairman of Merioneth Welsh Mountain Sheep Society and of the Welsh region of the Charolais Cattle Society. He is presently the British Charolais Society Council member for Wales.
