Marchoglu’r Brenin yn Sioe Frenhinol Cymru

The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, whose Musical Drive is one of the most spectacular displays of horsemanship in the world, and the famous JCB Dancing Diggers performing their repertoire of intricate manoeuvres in the main ring, will be among the star attractions at the Royal Welsh show from July 19 – 21.

The guns in the Troop display are 13 pounders all of which saw service in World War I.  Each gun and limber weighs 1.5 tonnes and with the team of six horses are approximately 54 feet long.  Members of the Troop are encouraged to take part in competition racing to improve their performance and on the final day of the show they will participate in a special Inter Hunt Relay competition between the King’s Troop and the 2010 winning team.

The JCB Ten Tonne Ballerinas will perform their astonishing routine to music in the main ring and another popular attraction, Chariots of Fire, the famous stunt carriage driving display team, is also back at the Royal Welsh after a break of several years.

The full programme of main ring displays include John Parker and the Royal Mail Coach, Meirion Owen and the Quack Pack, the European Mounted Games and the Pony Club Mounted Games, and the Regimental Band and Corps of Drums of the Royal Welsh Regiment.  There will also be Inter Hunt Relays on the first three days of the show, the winning team qualifying for the Hunt Chase competition at the Royal Dublin Horse Show in August.  Under a reciprocal arrangement with the RDS their winning team will perform for the first time at next year’s Royal Welsh Show.

Titan the Robot, one of the most successful street entertainment acts in the world, will be on the showground and performing in the Forestry Section.  Twenty-two vintage and classic tractors, seven stationary engines and three steamers from Ceredigion, the feature county, will provide a static display of vintage machinery with the mobile exhibits being paraded in the Cattle Ring on the first three days and the Main Ring on the final day.

This year the Royal Welsh is hosting the World Sheep Shearing and Woolhandling Championships at which 28 countries from across the globe will be competing.

The show will also be the venue for the first time for the UK logging championships at which up to 30 competitors will test their skill, speed and stamina, at tree-felling and logging.  The winners will go on to represent the UK in the World Championships in Croatia later this year.
