Chwilio am enwebiadau ar gyfer dwy brif Wobr Sioe Frenhinol

The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society is inviting applications for two of its most coveted prizes for 2009 – the Sir Bryner Jones and the Dr Emrys Evans awards.

The Sir Bryner Jones Memorial Award is made annually to a different branch of Welsh agriculture and to the person who has attained the highest level of achievement in the chosen sector.

For 2009 the award will go to the farmer who has successfully established an alternative and innovative outlet for the produce of a particular farm enterprise rather than selling direct through a market or a national processor.

The choice of the subject for the award emphasises the importance now being placed on the need for innovation in marketing and nominations for the competition will be made by the Royal Welsh county advisory committees throughout Wales.

They will also nominate candidates for the £2000 award in memory of Dr Emrys Evans, chairman of the society’s board of management from 1999 to 2004.

This once-in-a-lifetime award is made annually to people who have contributed in an exceptional way to rural skills.  Candidates must be under 35 years of age and live and work in Wales.

The theme of the award for 2009 is equine management.  The judges will assess competitors’ skills in breeding, choice and preparation of animals for show and sale, feeding, handling and training horses or ponies for leading, riding and driving, as well as pasture management; record keeping and proposing a breeding and development programme for the future.

Entries for both competitions close on April 6.
