Cystadleuaeth pentathlon ar gyfer yr Ŵyl Tyddyn a Gardd
Competitors who fancy their chances of pocketing the £50 prize offered to the winner of the pentathlon at this year’s Royal Welsh Smallholder and Garden Festival have until April 3 to enter for the event.
The competition is being held to promote and develop smallholder and countryside skills and entrants will be asked to demonstrate their abilities by completing five different tasks against the clock.
Details of the individual tasks will not be disclosed beforehand. However, they will involve the identification of various objects utilised on smallholdings, driving an All Terrain Vehicle and successfully completing practical countryside skills and activities under guidance.
Competitors must be over 16 years of age and their performance in the pentathlon will be scored by the judges to a maximum of 10 points for each task.
As well as the first prize of £50 and a piece of Welsh Royal Crystal, there will be four further cash prizes ranging from £30 for the runner-up down to £5 for fifth place. Prize cards and rosettes will also be awarded.
Subject to weather conditions the competition will be staged in, or near, the Festival’s main ring on the second day of the event, Sunday May 17, starting at 9am. The pentathlon is sponsored by Arctic Cat and details and applications forms can be obtained from the RWAS at Llanelwedd, Builth Wells, or by email to rhian@rwas.co.uk. If a large number of entries are received an eliminating questionnaire will be issued.
