Bwrsariaeth Sioe Frenhinol i Gynhadledd Ffermio Rhydychen
Rhydian Rees of Pensarnau, Cross Inn, Llandysul, Ceredigion, has been awarded a Royal Welsh Agricultural Society bursary to attend the 2009 Oxford Farming Conference. He was one of five candidates for the bursary from across Wales and he will attend the conference in January.
The Royal Welsh bursary was introduced eight years ago and is open to candidates between 25 and 35 years of age who must be working in a land-based industry.
The Oxford Farming Conference is one of the most prestigious of its kind. It is noted for its contribution to progressive ideas on current issues affecting farming and attracts leading figures in agriculture and related industries.
The judges for this year’s award said the high calibre of the candidates made the task of selecting the recipient ‘extremely difficult’. The young people who came forward would all have made excellent representatives of the RWAS and all were to be commended. However, the winner of the award was the most outstanding candidate.
Rhydian, who will be required to write an article about the conference for the 2009 RWAS Journal, will be presented with the award following the official opening of the Royal Welsh Winter Fair at Llanelwedd, Builth Wells, on Monday, December 1.
