Y Sioe Frenhinol yn cynnal cefnogaeth er gwaethaf y dirwasgiad
The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society achieved a new sponsorship record of £436,510 in 2008 and despite the tough economic situation sponsorship for the Royal Welsh Smallholder and Garden Festival reached £39,690 and so far £361,467 had been received in cash and in-kind sponsorship for this year’s Royal Welsh Show.
The figures were given by the chairman of the Royal Welsh board at the society’s annual meeting at Margam. He said that sponsorship amounting to £49,000 had been discontinued for 2009 but the situation could have been much worse. Sponsorship was normally one of the first items to be drawn back in a recession and the board had been anxious that this support would diminish greatly for the 2009 show.
“Hopefully, we shall gradually be able to build up support to the level enjoyed in 2008 and in previous years and the board’s grateful thanks go to all sponsors and also to those who have helped to secure this support,” he said.
Mr Lewis told members of the society that despite the increase in their subscriptions introduced in February membership numbers currently stood at 15,035, only 244 down on the same time last year.
“I wish to thank members for their continued support. I find it most encouraging that several of those who cancelled at the beginning of the year have already rejoined.”
