John Price of Beiligwern Farm, Crai, Brecon, Powys, is the winner of the 2009 Royal Welsh Agricultural Society’s Student of the Year award.
A student at Coleg Sir Gâr-Gelli Aur, he was one of three finalists for the award this year – two from Gelli Aur and one from Coleg Glynllifon – and will receive a cash prize for a study tour and a certificate.
The annual award is open to students who have completed NVQ Level III or the BTEC ND/NC, C&G certificate/diploma courses in agriculture, horticulture, forestry, animal nursing, horse management, countryside management or other land-based related management courses.
The RWAS award for the best student of agriculture at the Institute of Biological, Environmental & Rural Sciences, Aberystwyth University, goes this year to Aled Owen Morgan of Eglwyswrw, Crymych, Pembrokeshire. Candidates, born and brought up in Wales, must have studied agriculture, or a programme in which agriculture is a significant component, to degree, diploma or certificate level.
The winners will be awarded certificates and the presentations will be made on the opening day of the Royal Welsh Show.
